Healing Emotional Wounds from Childhood and Relationships
One day you feel like you’re healing, and the next day, you are suddenly overwhelmed by anger, disappointment, loneliness, and helplessness.
This is especially true when the person who hurt you is someone close.
On one hand, you want to acknowledge and admit that it hurts: “I feel that I don’t deserve to be loved when my parents never appreciated me.”
On the other hand, you find yourself trying to justify their actions, struggling to share or even validate your own experience: “I know my parents have tried their best to provide for me, I should be thankful.”
Trauma therapy provides a supportive space to heal. It allows you to gently explore things that still ache, parts that you don’t yet feel at ease. Together, we create a space to reconnect with your vulnerable, wounded self so you don’t have to keep pushing them aside or figuring it out all on your own.
“Even though you calmly described your childhood and how you had moved on, I could hear your pain when your parents weren’t there for you, both physically and emotionally.”
My therapist made this comment during our second session, when I had initially hoped to focus on managing my irritability and frustration toward my parents.
This was one example of how the imprints of trauma can remain within us in subtle and unspoken ways. It also sparked my interest in understanding trauma more deeply and working with clients who have experienced it.
